REDHOUSE
KRISTIN O’CONNOR
I've always known that I did not choose my homes. My homes chose me.
In the search for a place to live, there is often a moment when a house simply speaks. If it is meant to be, as they say, so mote it be. Every property I have loved has, in return, nourished me—often tenfold. It is a mutual exchange of art and heart.
This is an intuitive kind of knowing: a form of house whispering. A home is more than shelter or square footage. It is sanctuary—your own vortex, temple, church, refuge, and place of return. There is a particular magic in a dwelling that welcomes you, holds you, and becomes more beautiful through the life lived within it.
Home truly is where the heart is.
The Spirit of Place
Every home carries its own energy signature. Its spirit is shaped by more than architecture, furnishings, or finishes; it lives in the land, the light, the orientation, the materials, the history, and the people who inhabit it.
That life force may be felt in a rural valley farmette, a historic house with worn floorboards, or a modern 400-square-foot flat suspended halfway up an urban high-rise. Each space has its own inherent character, rhythm, and potential.
This is not a new way of thinking. Across cultures and traditions, people have named this vital presence in different ways: Ch’i, Prana, Ki, Mana, and more. Thoughtful design can work with these qualities rather than against them.
The path of sunlight throughout the day and across the seasons; the compass orientation of the entrance; the surrounding landscape; the geographic setting; the natural elements already present—all can inform a design from the beginning. When these qualities are considered with care, a home engages the senses more fully and supports the people who live there in meaningful, often subtle ways.
Design With Intention
What is the fundamental vibration of your home beneath the trimmings?
Are you creating an atmosphere that reflects who you are, supports what you desire, and gives form to your purpose? Does your home restore you, inspire you, and make room for pleasure, beauty, connection, and enchantment?
My work is a collaboration with both the homeowner and the home itself. Together, we create environments that are beautiful, deeply personal, and integral to well-being—spaces that feel sacred without being precious, inspired without being performative, and aligned with the natural world, the spirit of place, and the truer heart of those who live there.
Process
A generous budget can certainly make a design project easier. With unlimited resources, it is possible to layer a room with luxurious materials, beautiful color, custom furnishings, and significant art.
But beautiful design is not simply the result of spending more.
The real art—and the real pleasure—lies in working intelligently within the realities of a space: an established budget, existing architecture, inherited furnishings, practical constraints, and the particular ways you live. This is where thoughtful design becomes transformative. It is where resourcefulness, discernment, imagination, and a well-trained eye matter most.
Your home should not resemble someone else’s vision of what is stylish. It should be curated to reflect you—not as an exercise in ego, but as an expression of your values, desires, rhythms, memories, and the life you are creating. The goal is a space that feels personally resonant: one that mirrors and strengthens what matters most to you.
Where I Can Enter
I can join a project at nearly any point in its evolution:
Before construction, during planning, material selection, and pre-build decisions
During a renovation, redesign, furnishing, or installation
When a room is nearly complete but somehow does not feel resolved
When an overlooked or misunderstood space needs renewed purpose
When a home simply needs to function better, feel more alive, or bring more joy to everyday life
For a spontaneous reboot, focused refresh, or a complete transformation
Together, we identify the highest potential already present in your home, then make deliberate, beautiful choices to bring it forward.
Let’s make an art of discovering what your space can become—and then create the results.
May you have warmth in your igloo, oil in your lamp and peace in your heart.
